Online music platform Musiana launches 'Tabla' classes by Subhankar Banerjee
Kolkata, June 27 (IBNS): Musiana.org, a musical online platform with an aim to building a community strictly bound by music, has launched 'Tabla' classes for all those who want to learn the instrument from its basics.
The lessons for this instrument are being given out by highly acclaimed Tabla player Pandit Subhankar Banerjee.
Going by Musiana's philosophy, the online classes for Tabla, start from the basics and proceed according to steps required for learning of the instrument.
"It is important for everyone to follow the lessons right from the introductory class," says Banerjee.
The initial classes for 'Tabla' called 'Introduction to the Tabla' and 'Know Your Tabla' have been crafted with much articulation so that even an amateur in any corner of the globe can be benefitted from the same.
The first class itself, by Banerjee, describes the instrument 'Tabla' with its practice ranging from its source of inception to industry usages today. A brief history of 'Tabla', an instrument which has acquired a global reach today, is also provided as a guideline to all musicians.
If one visits the website and tunes into the first class of Tabla, one can learn the exact and ideal sitting posture to play the instrument along with the placing of hands accompanied by the look and expression while playing it.
He also delivers a lecture on the movements of the fingers and their positioning while playing Tabla, making sure he does not miss the warnings in order to avoid unavoidable sufferings for his students.
Banerjee has also recommended measure and precautions required to avoid unwanted physical aches for his students.
"It is really important to sit in the right posture so that one can play Tabla for a longer period of time painlessly. All the steps should be followed very strictly," notes Banerjee.
While the first class deals with the detail of using the right hand drum or 'Tabla', the next episode or lesson follows it up with particulars of the left hand drum or 'Baya'.
Banerjee can be seen discussing in details the characteristics and parts of 'Tabla' as an instrument. In his first two classes, he has emphasized on the positioning and postures rather than compositions and strokes so that amateurs do not have difficulty in picking up the lessons effortlessly.
By the third class, beginners can learn about 'Taali & Khali', 'Beats & Matra' as well as 'Bolpadha.'
The Musiana lessons are essentially in English language to cater to the global audiences. Although, the lessons are given out online, the mentors can be seen interacting in a kind similar to face-to-face tutorials.
Tabla classes also provide enriching lessons on 'Taals' or rhythmic cycles which are the very essentials of any kind of music.
The Musiana website or www.musiana.org is an initiative that seeks to build a virtual rendezvous for a community of music lovers, students, teachers, musicians and researchers. Here, musicians teach, perform and converse about music. The ‘musiana moments’ are recorded live and broadcast for free through its YouTube channel.
The Musiana channel on YouTube also showcases these videos of 10-20 minutes' duration.
A brainchild of Dr. Arna Seal, Musiana.org is also co-founded by musician Srikanto Acharya, Sarod exponent Dr. Rajeeb Chakraborty and Mostafa Towhid Khan of Bangladesh.
