18 reportedly die due to power failure in Chennai hospitals
Chennai, Dec 4 (IBNS) At least 18 people have been reported dead in a hospital due to power failure in the rain hit, flooded city of Chennai, according to media reports.
Tamil Nadu Health Secretary, J Radhakrishnan was quoted by Zee News as saying, "At least 57 critical patients were shifted to different hospitals, out of them 18 patients died. Reasons of their death are still unclear and investigation are underway."
The health secretary also said that there was no lapse from the government's side.
"While we mourn the loss of lives, I wish to say that not all patients have died due to power failure. There has been no lapse from our side."
While an investigation has been enforced by the state, Radhakrishnan also urged the media not to spread panic as the situation in the state is already bleak.
