Actor-politician Ramya faces sedition charge for praising Pakistan
Bengaluru, Aug 23 (IBNS) : Kannada actor-turned-politician Ramya faces a sedition charge over her comment "Pakistan is not a hell" as a lawyer has filed a case against the former Lok Sabha MP, reports said.
The complaint against Ramya has been filed in Karnataka's Kodagu under several sections. The court will hear the case on 27 August.
Also known as Divya Spandana, the 33-year-old actor recently refuted Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar's statement that "going to Pakistan is like going to hell".
" Parrikar’s comments are not true... Pakistan is not hell. People there are just like us. They treated us very well," she said at a rally at Mandya referring to her recent visit to Pakistan.
"I will not apologise as I have done nothing wrong. I am entitled to my views and that is what democracy is about," Ramya said today, adding: "It's funny that people get away with murder charges and polarisation in this country," NDTV quoted Ramya as saying on Tuesday.
Ramya had visited Islamabad for a meeting of young parliamentarians from SAARC.
A Congress member, the actor has also been reportedly trolled on twitter for her comments.
According to media reports, she has also been flayed by Jaggesh, another Kannada actor-cum-politician.
A member of the Bharaitya Janata Party, Jaggesh has said, "People who have not studied and don't have any experience are praising Pakistan. They should be given a peace prize, maybe a Nobel. They should also be allowed to stand next to Bill Clinton and take photos."
Advocate K. Vittal Gowda filed a private complaint under Section 200 of Cr.Pc in the first JMFC court on Monday, accusing Ramya of “insulting India” and “provoking the people of India” by “appreciating Pakistan, which is a traditional enemy of India.”
