Alka Lamba suspended as AAP spokesperson
New Delhi, June 16 (IBNS) Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has suspended its leader Alka Lamba as the spokesperson of the party for two months, media reports said on Thursday.
AAP MLA Alka Lamba was removed from the post of party spokesperson Tuesday night, sources told The Indian Express.
The move was reportedly made after she deviated from party line while telling the media that Delhi's Transport Minister Gopal Rai was “relieved” of the portfolio in order to make way for a fair probe into the Premium Bus Service scheme.
Lamba said she will follow the party's decision.
"I respect the decision taken by the party," she tweeted.
Delhi Transport Minister Gopal Rai resigned on Tuesday citing health issues, according to media reports.
Health minister Satyendra Jain has been given additional charge of the transport ministry.
Gopal Rai got mired in the app-based premium bus service scam after it was alleged that the scheme was floated to favour a particular company.
The premium bus service, which was rolled out in May, had to be withdrawn when Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Najeeb Jung voiced his suspicion about special treatment to one company, media reported.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal asked Gopal Rai to present himself at the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) with all relevant papers, according to media reports.
On Monday, Gopal Rai said that he was prepared to go to jail if charges of corruption were proved.
