Assam CM orders probe into man carrying brother's body tied to bicycle in Majuli district
Guwahati, Apr 19 (IBNS): Assam's Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has asked for a probe into the incident of a man being forced to carry his brother's body on a bicycle owing to pathetic road conditions in Majuli district.
It was from Majuli constituency that Sonowal won the Assembly elections.
The incident came to light when local media aired the story.
According to reports, Dimple Das from Balijan village in Lakhimpur district was brought to the Garmur civil hospital in serious condition on April 17 last by his family members.
There is no motorable road link to Balijan and the villagers were forced to reach the main road to Garmur by crossing a makeshift bamboo bridge.
Before Das could even be treated and provided oxygen supply, he died at the hospital.
When the incident was reported in the local media, Assam CM Sonowal ordered a probe into the incident.
He asked the Director of Health Services to rush to Majuli and take stock of the circumstances leading to the incident.
Sometime back, media reports of a poor tribal man from Odisha carrying the body of his wife on his back had shocked the nation.
