Australia: Police kill man who fatally shot a senior constable
Queensland, May 30 (IBNS): The Queensland police have shot dead a man after the latter killed a senior constable (SC) on Monday, reports said.
The constable, identified as Brett Forte, was shot by Rick Maddison after the constable intercepted his car in Queensland.
"Tragically, we can confirm the death of an officer who was involved in a shooting incident at Lockyer Valley today," a Queensland Police tweet read on Monday.
Following the incident, the Lockyer valley area was cordoned off.
Reports said that Maddison was shot following a stand-off with police.
Queensland Police Commissioner Ian Stewart said that he wanted to solved the issue as peacefully as possible and added, "He (the offender) had a number of opportunities in the last 24hrs where this could have been resolved peacefully."
In another tweet, Stewart wrote, "It's a sad reality that there are people who would sell firearms to people illegally."
Queensland Police have added that the cordons are still in place due to an ongoing investigation.
