BJP, Trinamool tussle over Amit Shah's rally location
Kolkata, Nov 20 (IBNS): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has appealed to a Calcutta High Court over controversy surrounding the location of the rally to be addressed in the city by its National president Amit Shah on November 30, media reported.
According to reports, the party wants to hold the public meeting in front of Victoria House in busy Esplanade area in heart of the city, for which it applied for permission from Police in July.
It has been learnt that police, however, has refused to give the necessary nod, contending that the rally would cause jams since Victoria House is near a major traffic intersection.
BJP on Tuesday contented in front of the court that ruling Trinamool Congress holds its annual meeting of party workers at the same location every 21 July.
The court has asked BJP to sort the issue with police, following which the party leaders met city's Commisioner of Police Surajit Kar Purakayastha on Thursday, who advised them an alternative spot.
But with BJP denying to accept the alternative, the matter got struck mid-way.
It has been learnt that Kolkata Police will take the final call on Friday.
BJP has been learnt to knock the court again on next Monday if police fails to give them the desired spot.
