Brunei plans to ditch Christmas celebrations
Bandar Seri Begawan, Dec 23 (IBNS) In a strange diktat by the Sultan of Brunei, the country has allegedly prevented the Christmas celebrations as it could potentially harm the Islam faith, according to media reports.
Brunei, an oil rich state and a predominant Muslim nation, feels that the open and wide celebrations of Christmas can lead young Muslims astray and that the adaptation of the Christian celebrations is prohibited in some interpretations of Islam.
Reports also suggested that the country have embargoed the sale of Santa hats and Christmas greetings card.
If found guilty of celebrating Christmas, one can be sentenced to a 5-year jail term.
