Cabinet recommends re-promulgation of Land Acquisition Ordinance
Delhi, May 30 (IBNS) The Union Cabinet on Saturday recommended re-promulgation of controversial Land Acquisition Ordinance, reports said.
The earlier ordinance brought into force in March would lapse on June 4, six weeks after the Rajya Sabha was convened on April 23.
The proposal of the Rural Development Ministry comes as a Joint Committee of Parliament is examining the Land Acquisition Bill based on the ordinance in force.
The government had promulgated ordinance twice on the bill since December after it faced continuous resistance especially in Rajya Sabha, where it does not have the numbers.
The Government had to bow to the opposition demand to refer it to the Joint Parliamentary Committee.
