Champions Trophy: India settle for silver
London, June 18 (IBNS): India settled for a silver medal after Australia defeated them in the final of the 36th Hero Champions Trophy in London on Friday.
The final scoreline read 1-3 in favour of Australia.
The winner was decided via shootout where only Harmanpreet Singh was able to hit the ball in the net.
SK Uthappa, SV Sunil and Surender Kumar failed to score.
For Australia, it was Aran Zalewski, Daniel Beale and Simon Orchard who scored the three goals.
P.R. Sreejesh saved the shot hit by Trent Mitton.
The shoot out turned a bit controversial when Beale's shot was re-taken after he failed to score and sought a video review.
India protested against the second attempt given to the player.
The final announcement of the result was delayed and the presentatation ceremony was held indoors after the jury decided, following discussion on the appeal, that there was unintentional obstruction by Indian goalkeeper PR Sreejesh in the seventh second which made the re-take of the shot was justified.
Despite, best efforts by both the sides, the scoreline remained goalless at half-time.
Both the sides failed to score in the regular time and the scoreline remained 0-0.
