New Delhi, Apr 24 (IBNS): The canteen stores department, the retail arm for India's defence forces, has banned the sale of Patanjali Ayurved's Amla juice, according to media reports.

Patanjali Ayurved Limited is promoted by yoga guru Baba Ramdev.

The sale of Patanjali Ayurved's Amla juice has been suspended following the adverse state laboratory test report about the product, the Economic Times reported on Monday.

Interestingly, earlier in April this year, media reports said that the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Patanjali Ayurved Limited have decided to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to market several herbal products developed by the DRDO’s Life Sciences wing - Defence Institute of High Altitude Research (DIHAR).

In January, an ASSOCHAM– TechSci Research paper said that Patanjali Ayurveda, steered by Baba Ramdev has turned out to be the most disruptive force in India’s fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) market.

The ASSOCHAM report said that Patanjali, which has expanded its product portfolio across wide range of personal care and food and beverages saw a whopping annual growth of 146 per cent in fiscal 2016 grossing in turnover of USD 769 million whereas its peers including ITC, Dabur, Hindustan Unilever, Colgate – Palmolive and Procter & Gamble, among others, struggled to get a growth much less than a double digit.

ET reported that both CSD and Patanjali Ayurved did not respond to their email queries.
