Delhi Law Minister Tomar taken to Faizabad college in fake degree probe
New Delhi, June 10 (IBNS): Former Delhi Law Minister Jitender Singh Tomar, who resigned from his post on Tuesday, has been taken to Faizabad in Uttar Pradesh to take part in the investigation over his alleged faked degrees.
Tomar was taken by train to Faizabad, which is about 700 km away from Delhi.
According to reports, police are expected to validate a BSc degree that Tomar claims he got from the Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University.
Hours after he was arrested and sent to police custody, Delhi Law Minister Jitender Singh Tomar on Tuesday resigned from his post.
His resignation has been accepted by Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal.
Delhi's Deputy CM Manish Sisodia told reporters: "His resignation has been accepted by the CM."
A Delhi court earlier sent Tomar, who was arrested in connection with charges of possessing a fake law degree, to four-day's police custody.
Tomar was in a meeting in his constituency when police arrested him and took him away.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), meanwhile, accused the Modi government of targeting its leaders for opposing the Centre's policies.
"Those who oppose Modi govt have to pay the price.Tomorrow don't be surprised if AAP leaders are killed in road accidents. But we will fight," AAP leader Ashutosh tweeted.
According to reports, Tomar has been charged under various IPC sections including 420 (cheating). He has also been charged under IPC sections 467 (forgery), 468 (forgery with purpose of cheating) and 120 (B) (criminal conspiracy).
Bihar-based Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University had informed the Delhi High Court that Tomar's law degree is fabricated. The institute had claimed that Tomar's law degree does not exist in their records.
