Dutch womens team for ICC WW T20 Qualifier 2015 in Bangkok, Thailand
Dubai, Oct 29 (IBNS) A group consisting of 14 players and 3 staff will depart from Amsterdam on Nov 19 for a preparation tour and the Womens T20 World Cup Qualifier in Bangkok, Thailand.
The first part of the tour consists of a preparation trip to Sri Lanka. The team will practise at the Panadura CC to get used to the warmer climate in Asia, and play a couple of warming-up fixtures vs Sri Lanka A and a strong Panadura CC XI.
Captain Esther de Lange (31), faces the task to try and qualify for the 2016 World Cup in India with a very young squad. The average age lies just above 20 years. Some experienced players are missing, only five players of this group were part of the team that in 2013 missed out on qualification for the T20 World Cup when it lost the deciding play-off vs Ireland by the narrow margin of 2 runs. These 5 players are De Lange, Miranda Veringmeier, Heather Siegers, Cher van Slobbe and Lisa Klokgieters.
In the 2015 Summer the Dutch team participated in the ECB 50-overs and T20 competitions. The young squad gained a lot of experience in the nine weekends they played in the UK. Wicketkeeper/batsman Veringmeier turned out to be one of the best-performing players in the English season overall.
Coach is the Australian-born former Dutch men’s international and coach (2007 World Cup West Indies) Peter Cantrell. He will be assisted by former women’s international Caroline de Fouw. Manager is Ted Hartman.
The team leaves fro Sri Lanka on November 19 and from there will travel on to Bangkok on November 26. The team is scheduled to play Ireland, Zimbabwe and China in group B, starting with the match vs Ireland on November 28, followed by Zimbabwe (29 November) and China (1 December). The top two teams from both groups will qualify for the semi finals (3 December), the winners going through to the final (5 December) and the World Cup.
