Finance Minister lied in Parliament: Arvind Kejriwal on CBI raid
New Delhi, Dec 15 (IBNS) After calling Prime Minister Narendra Modi a 'coward' and a 'psychopath' for the alleged CBI raid on his office Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday took on Finance Minister Arun Jaitley accusing him of lying in Parliament.
A few hours after the CBI raided Delhi Principal Secretary Rajinder Kumar, Jaitley told the Rajya Sabha that the action is on a bureaucrat and has nothing to do with Arvind Kejriwal's office or his tenure as CM.
Soon after Jaitley's statement, Kejriwal claimed that the Finance Minister was lying and the CBI was examining files in the CM's office.
"FM lied in Parliament. My own office files are being looked into to get some evidence against me. Rajender is an excuse," Kejriwal tweeted.
AAP spokesperson Ashutosh too echoed Kejriwal. "Jaitley lied in Parliament. We want to make it clear that on the pretext of Rajendar Kumar, all files are being scanned. If this is matter related to 2002, why now? You are targeting Kejriwal. The Finance Minister is misleading the House. He has given a misleading statement. This was an attempt to check on all the files in the office. Why was the Delhi CM not taken into confidence. This raids are targeting Kejriwal and not Rajender Kumar," he said.
Media reports quoted CBI sources as saying that the raid took place as the Anti-Corruption Branch has registered a case against Kejriwal's Principal Secretary Rajender Kumar. The case is of criminal misconduct against Rajender and other private people.
Kumar's office is situated on the same floor as Kejriwal's in the Delhi Secretariat. After the raid the CBI sealed the entire floor which saw the AAP launching a no holds barred attack on the Centre and CBI.
The ACB had on December 9 questioned Rajendra Kumar in connection with alleged irregularities in conducting fitness tests for commercial vehicles.
In 2013, Kumar, who is now Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, was the transport commissioner.
