Flood alert sounded in Srinagar

Srinagar, Sept 23 (IBNS) Flood alert was sounded in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag, Pulwama and Srinagar districts on Wednesday as incessant rains continued to lash the valley since Monday and the Jhelum River crossed the danger mark.

State Irrigation and Flood Control division said that water level of the Jheelam was about to touch 22 and 17-foot marks respectively  at Sangam and Ram Munshi Bagh.

Chief Engineer Javed Jafar told IBNS, that water level at Sangam was flowing at 21.30 ft while it was at 16.04 feet at Munshi Bagh.

Earlier, Chief Engineer, Irrigation and Flood Control, Kashmir has directed all the concerned field employees to immediately report for duty in their respective places.

The department has asked the people living on river bank and in other low lying areas of south and central Kashmir to remain alert.
