Former Sri Lankan cricketer Kumar Sangakkara named Player of the Week
London, Apr 30 (IBNS) Former Sri Lankan skipper Kumar Sangakkara has been named Specsavers County Championship Player of the Week.
He smashed 242 over his two innings against Somerset.
The Sri Lankan left-hander thrashed 171 from 176 balls at the Kia Oval before adding 71 in his second innings for good measure during the drawn Division One game, The England and Wales Cricket Board website said.
That earned the 38-year-old 45 per cent of the 2,700 votes cast, making him a clear winner.
It was close for second place, with evergreen opener Marcus Trescothick taking 20 per cent of the vote after the 40-year-old biffed a 59th first-class ton against Surrey.
Essex’s Jamie Porter took eight wickets in his side’s victory over Northamptonshire, taking his tally to 22 for the season and securing 19 per cent of the vote.
England and Worcestershire star Moeen Ali amassed 210 runs, including an unbeaten 136, in his county’s draw with Gloucestershire and finished with 16 per cent of the vote.
