Kolkata, May 24 (IBNS): The era of digitization has brought the market to the finger-tips of a young netizen via their laptops, smart phones and tabs and is keeping them hooked.

"I satisfy most of my fetishes by going online and buying stuff online itself. While doing so I'll probably be slothing away on a couch in the comfort of my own home," said 21 year old Archiesman Banerjee, resident of Kolkata.

"It's not just about comfort while shopping online on an e-commerce site. Think about how much time and extra effort it saves you from and you'll understand what I'm talking about," he concluded.

The e-commerce sites are visibly more youth-oriented as a majority of their loyal customers are young adults. An Indian youngster is affected by the same paradigm shift, i.e shopping malls to Macbooks, as any other youngster in the global scenario.

These websites provide a varied range of products keeping in mind the different necessities of different age groups of youngsters. Through these websites, consumers can easily surf and shop gadgets, clothes, books, personal care and health care products.

Convenience is a term that comes to play over here. Youth in India are accustomed to a life that circulates in the virtual world and they are much more exposed to the advertisements of various products via the social networking sites.

This becomes even more easier for them when buying the social-media advertised product is only a few clicks away, the same product they learnt about a few minutes before. The added feature of a door-step delivery is a win-win situation here.

The youngsters prefer to purchase lifestyle commodities via e-commerce sites which is contrary to the traditional way of shopping via personally visiting the retail stores.

22 year old Rajreeta Sen says, "I'm a professional photographer and everyday my schedule is quite hectic. In a life like that, I don't have much time to go around looking for, say, clothes, health-related or wellness products from store to store."

She quickly adds, "Its easier for me to go online and check out the commodities that I might need and buy them. Besides it's such a bliss to shop while I'm sitting indoors, in my house, avoiding this crazy summer heat."

After the concept of economic liberalization began to take shape in India, which was initiated in the year 1991, the people here took to shopping for commodities those are global in nature of their availability.  

Soon after, the use of internet and mobile phones became a regular thing and that brought upon a change on how a consumer will approach the market while buying a commodity. Eventually, with the availability of e-commerce websites in the 21st century youth turned to internet and mobile phones to buy products online.
