Rohtak/Chadigarh, Mar 17 (IBNS) The Government of Haryana has tightened up security in the state as the deadline issued by the Jat community regarding their demand for job quota expires on Thursday.
Jat leaders have threatened to start fresh agitations if their demand is not met.
Haryana's Jat community had staged a violent nine-day protest in February demanding reservation in government jobs and educational institutions; 30 peopled died during the agitation and property damaged.
Prohibitory orders have been issued in places such as Rohtak and Jind, including flag march in Rohtak
Colleges in Jind will remain closed on Mar 17 and 18, according to reports.
The BJP-led M L Khattar government said it will not buckle under any deadline, according to media reports.
The February agitation was withdrawn after the government said it will introduce a bill granting the Jats their status.
But, according to reports, the bill will not be placed in the state assembly on Thursday, as a consensus has not been reached and the bill is being redrafted.
The government has said that it is committed to table the bill, according to reports.
