I salute people of Kashmir for condemning the Amarnath Yatra attack: Rajnath Singh
New Delhi, July 10 (IBNS): Criticising the attack on Amarnath Yatra pilgrims in Anantnag a day back, Union home minister Rajnath Singh saluted the people of Kashmir for condemning the incident, on Tuesday.
"Its saddening. But I salute all sections people of Kashmir for condemning it" Singh said.
He has called a meeting to review security situation in the region where the attack was carried out despite a security cover of about 40,000 troops.
Vice President of India Hamid Ansari too condemned the terror attack on Amarnath Yatra in Jammu and Kashmir.
In a message, he said that such wanton acts of violence can have no justification and the perpetrators and those who support and shelter them should be punished for this crime against humanity.
At least seven Amarnath Yatra pilgrims were killed on Monday evening in yet another terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag district.
According to reports, the terrorists opened fire around 8.20 PM on a bus carrying pilgrims, leaving nearly 12 people injured.
The bus, which was coming from Gujarat, was reportedly not part of the main yatra convoy.
As a result it was not registered with the shrine board, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) told media.
The CRPF covers the main yatra convoy otherwise.
Even as condemnation poured in from all quarters, Kashmir Police on Tuesday said the LeT (Lashkar-e-Taiba) was behind the terror attack on Amarnath pilgrims in Anantnag district on Monday evening, killing seven yatris and leaving many injured.
Kashmir IG said the attack was carried out by the Lashkar. Pakistani terrorist Abu Ismail is said to be the mastermind behind it.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti said the attack is "an assault on our values and traditions".
