In a first, DMK to move no-trust vote against TN speaker
Chennai, Feb 22 (IBNS): In a first in the history of Tamil Nadu politics, opposition DMK is set to move no-trust vote against state speaker P Dhanapal, reports said.
A copy of the notice was submitted to the speaker himself by MK Stalin, the leader of the opposition.
Speaking about the norms in such a case, former Lok Sabha secretary general Subhash Kashyap told the Times of India, "The speaker cannot be in his seat while the motion is carried out."
"His deputy will have to lead the House. If the motion is passed, the speaker immediately loses his job and the assembly will have to find a new speaker. As such the government does not fall as the motion is only against the speaker," Kashyap added.
Speaking about their decision to move a no-confidence motion, Stalin told reporters, "In the special session on February 18 for the trust vote, the speaker acted with ulterior motives. On that basis, given that there is no confidence in him, we have submitted the letter seeking a no-confidence motion against him."
"When we see that the speaker is deliberately harping on his community to malign us, it is very regrettable. It is a matter of shame, according to us, for Tamil Nadu," the opposition leader added.
