India must reach new heights: Modi
New Delhi, Aug 15 (IBNS): Addressing the nation from the iconic Red Fort on the ocassion of the Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the energy in India must help the nation reach new heights of success.
"Today on this special day, I convey my greetings to 125 crore Indians & the Indian community living overseas," Modi said.
"May this energy guide the nation to scale newer heights of progress in the years to come," he said.
He remembered Indian leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Jwaharlala Nehru among others and said: "We remember Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Patel, Pandit Nehru, countless people who sacrificed their lives so that we attained Swarajya."
Modi said India has the capability to solve the problems it faces.
"Yes, we face several problems. But we are capable to overcome them," he said.
Highlighting the activities of his government, Modi said: "Today, more than Karya, I want to talk about Karya Sanskriti on the Government."
The PM said: "We want to change the situation where people are scared of income tax authorities, particularly among middle class families."
Modi said renewable energy is a focus area for the government to work upon.
"We want to distribute 77 crore more LED bulbs. I am urging everyone to use LED bulbs. You all must save energy and take part in helping our nation," Modi said.
Referring to the GST issue, Modi said, "GST will give strength to our economy and all parties are to be thanked for its passage."
