India voices strong protest over Pakistan raising Kashmir issue in UN
New Delhi, Jul 14 (IBNS): India has strongly protested strongly against Pakistan raising the issue of Kashmir and Burhan Wani's death during a debate on human rights at the UN General Assembly on Wednesday, the media reported on Thursday.
Pakistan's envoy Maleeha Lodhi brought up the Kashmir issue and the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani.
India's ambassador to the UN, Syed Akbaruddin, said that Pakistan as a country "covets the territory of others and uses terrorism as state policy towards that misguided end," reported NDTV.
Lodhi had called the death of Wani "extra-judicial" and described him as a "Kashmiri leader" killed by Indian forces, according to media reports.
"The attempt came from Pakistan, a country that covets the territory of others, a country that uses terrorism as state policy towards that misguided end, a country that extols the virtues of terrorists and that provides sanctuary to UN-designated terrorists, and a country that masquerades its efforts as support for human rights and self-determination," said Akbaruddin, according to media reports.
India on Monday urged Pakistan to refrain from interfering in the internal affairs of its neighbours.
"We have seen statements from Pakistan on the situation in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. They reflect Pakistan's continued attachment to terrorism and its usage as an instrument of State policy. Pakistan is advised to refrain from interfering in the internal affairs of its neighbours," read a statement issued by MEA spokesperson on Monday.
The Valley has been on edge since the killing top Hizb commander Burhan Wani along with his two associates on Friday evening in South Kashmir.
Wani, a 22-year-old commander of Kashmir's largest militant group HM, was killed along with two associates during a brief gun battle with government forces on Friday.
