New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said India will never bow before terrorism as he remembered the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack on its anniversary.

Taking to X, Modi wrote, “Remembering the innocent lives lost in the gruesome Pahalgam terror attack on this day last year. They will never be forgotten. My thoughts are also with the bereaved families as they cope with this loss.”

“As a nation, we stand united in grief and resolve. India will never bow to any form of terror. The heinous designs of terrorists will never succeed,” he added.

One of the worst attacks in recent memory

The attack took place around 2:30 pm in Baisaran Valley, near Pahalgam, when militants dressed in military fatigues opened fire on a group of tourists.

26 people were killed—including two foreign nationals and two locals—while at least 10 others were injured.

The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy of Lashkar-e-Taiba, claimed responsibility for the attack.

The group said the assault was in protest against India’s move to grant domicile certificates to non-locals in Jammu and Kashmir.

Operation Sindoor: India’s response

In retaliation, the Indian Armed Forces launched Operation Sindoor, targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

Nine terror camps—linked to groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed, and Hizbul Mujahideen—were destroyed in a swift 25-minute operation.

According to the Press Information Bureau, the strikes were aimed at neutralising terror camps involved in planning and executing attacks against India.
