Milpitas, California, Feb 13 (IBNS): A 26-year-old Indian techie from Telangana, identified as Vamshi Chander Reddy, was shot dead in California's Milpitas by a suspected car thief, media reports said.

Media reports said Vamshi Reddy had completed his MS from Silicon Valley University and was working in a local store recently while on a job hunt.

According to The Mercury News, the shooting occurred shortly after 10:45 p.m. on Feb 11, when officers were summoned to the Ilara Apartments at 1201 S. Main St. A caller reported that a suspect had stolen her car, taking her keys at gunpoint.

"Arriving officers heard a gunshot from within the parking structure of the complex and saw a car fleeing the scene. The driver led police on a brief chase that ended at Serra Way and South Abel Street, where he was taken into custody.

"Meanwhile, officers searching the parking structure found a man who had been shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene," Mercury News reported.

Later the victim was identified as an Indian from Telangana's Warangal district. Reddy was reportedly returning home after his part-time shift at a local store when he met with the tragedy.

His father Sanjeeva Reddy later confirmed the news after he was informed about the incident by his friends in USA.

The father said he was looking for a software job in USA while the family back home had asked him to return to India and look for a job here and settle down.
