Kerala temple fire: HC to decide on fire ban today, 6 arrested

Thiruvananthapuram, Apr 12 (IBNS) The Kerala High Court will decide on whether to ban fire crackers display in the state in the future, on Tuesday, after at least 110 people were killed and around 800 injured following a mishap in one of the temples in Kollam district on Monday.

Reports suggest that the state police have already made six arrests following the surrender of those involved. The cops are on the look out for five more, suspected to have links with the tragedy.

An attempted murder charge was slapped on them by the police, as Kerala CM Oomen Chandy said that the temple officials defied orders and proceeded with the celebratory fireworks, a spectacle witnessed by around 15,000 spectators.

The the court is yet to decide on the issue, the Travancore Devaswom Board, a trust, in-charge of nearly 1000 temples across the state saidon Monday that that they will continue to defy orders and will participate in the fireworks, irrespective of the verdict.

The trust also said that it is the government's duty to provide safety to people.
