Major ceasefire violation by PAK, two civilians killed in India
Jammu, Aug 23 (IBNS): At least two civilians were killed, including an eight-year old, and four others injured in a major ceasefire violation by Pakistani troops as they targeted 22 Border Security Force (BSF) posts and several villages in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday night, reports said.
According to sources, Pakistani troops targeted the BSF posts and villages in the Arnia and RS Pura sectors. Long range mortar shells and heavy to medium machine guns were used during the attack. One BSF jawan was injured in the firing.
The unprovoked firing prompted Indian border-guarding agency to retaliate in equal measure.
Pakistani troops also opened fire late on Thursday night targeting two BSF posts in RS Pura sector of Jammu and Kashmir. The unprovoked firing took place as mortal shells from across the border landed in villages located on the Indian side causing some damages.
Pakistani troops had also resorted to unprovoked firing targeting Indian posts at Hamirpur sector of Poonch in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday night as well using semi-automatic and automatic weapons. Tuesday night’s firing was the first such violation of ceasefire since India had called off foreign secretary level talks with Pakistan that was scheduled for next week.
At least 14 incidents of ceasefire violations by Pakistani troops were reported along the Line of Control (LoC) and the international border in Jammu region in the recent past.
