Maran says CBI trying to frame him to please RSS
Chennai, Jan 22 (IBNS): Former Telecom Minister Dayanidhi Maran on Thursday accused the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) of framing him in an attempt to please Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) - the ideological mentor of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
“I am being singled out. The CBI is fixing me to please an RSS ideologue from Tamil Nadu,” Maran said.
He said that the federal investigation agency was “torturing and forcing the arrested” men to give statements against him.
The CBI arrested V Gowthaman, Maran’s former private secretary, on Wednesday in connection with a case. Maran alleged that the central agency sleuths were forcing Gowthaman to testify against him.
Investigators said that Maran used more than 300 government-owned phone lines for Sun TV, the media network owned by his brother Kalanithi Maran, when he was the Union telecom minister between 2004 and 2007.
