Minor girl raped, killed in West Bengal village
Kolkata, July 24 (IBNS) A seven-year-old girl was allegedly raped and then hanged from a tree in a village in East Midnapore district of West Bengal, police said on Thursday, adding that the prime accused also died after being beaten up by the villagers.
The girl was found dead and hanging from a tree on Thursday morning. She was missing from Wednesdayevening, said police.
"We are awaiting the autopsy report to confirm the rape. There was an old enmity between the families of the girl and the prime accused Ratan Das, who died in a hospital in the morning," said the officer-in-charge of Nandakumar Police Station in East Midnapore under which the village falls.
More than one person could be involved in the assault of the girl, said police.
Angry villagers also set on fire the house of Ratan Das too after the girl was found hanging from a tree.
It may be mentioned that an outrage had followed the alleged sexual assault and hanging from tree of two sisters at Badaun in Uttar Pradesh in May this year.
