Modi speaks to Sharif, Hasina, wish them cricket luck
New Delhi, Feb 13 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said he has called up his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif and wished all the best to the Pakistan cricket team ahead of the Cricket World Cup. He also wished other SAARC nation leaders, including Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh.
"Spoke to President @ashrafghani, PM Sheikh Hasina, PM Nawaz Sharif & President Sirisena. Conveyed my best wishes for the Cricket World Cup," tweeted Narendra Modi.
"Cricket connects people in our region & promotes goodwill. Hope players from SAARC region play with passion & bring laurels to the region," he tweeted.
"5 SAARC Nations are playing & are excited about the World Cup. Am sure WC will celebrate sportsman spirit & will be a treat for sports lovers," posted Modi.
In the World Cup, India encountered Pakistan in its first cricket in Adelaide on Sunday.
Indian foreign secretary S Jaishankar would embark "on a SAARC Yatra soon to further strengthen our ties," said Modi.
