Pinarayi Vijayan to become Kerala Chief Minister
Thiruvanthapuram, May 20 (IBNS) Pinarayi Vijayan, who head the force against VS Achuthanandan in Kerala CPI(M)'s intra-party tussle, has reportedly been chosen as Chief Minister at the head of the Left Democratic Alliance in the state, media reports said.
CPI(M) Secretary Sitaram Yechury and Polit Bureau member Prakash Karat, who reached the Kerala capital on Fridaymorning, held a meeting at the party headquarters and will announce the new chief minister in the afternoon.
Pinyari Vijayan has reportedly been placed over former Chief Minister Achuthanandan primarily because of his age-72- 20 years younger to the nonagenarian patriarch. He also has a big majority in the party's state committee.
Much of Achuthanandan's first tenure as chief minister - in 2006-11 - saw a face-off between the two leaders that the party often found tough to deal with.
At one point, the party's national leadership had thrown both of them out of the polit Bureau. While Vijayan was reinstated, Achuthanandan only had the status of an invitee to the central committee.
