
PM remembers Dhyan Chand on National Sports Day
New Delhi, Aug 29 (IBNS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid rich tribute to hockey wizard Dhyan Chand on Friday on his 109th birth anniversary.
He said, "Our tributes to the legendary Major Dhyan Chand on National Sports Day. His determination & dedication towards sports continues to inspire."
Prime Minister also congratulated award-wining sportspersons who made the country proud.
Speaking on the occasion of National Sports Day, Prime Minister lauded the performance of all sportspersons who laid an exemplary performance on the field.
He said, "We salute all our sportsmen & women who have been enhancing the pride of the Tricolour by their exemplary performance on the field."
"Congrats to the sportspersons who are honoured with the various National Sports Awards. India is proud of them," the Prime Minister said.
Earlier, Union Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Sarbananda Sonowal also paid tribute to the Indian hockey legend.
He said, "Dhyan Chand redefined the Indian Sports in Hockey at the global level."
He advocated the value of sports in daily life by saying, "Sports play a crucial role in developing our mental as well as physical strength which are the hallmark for success in every field. India is on continuous stride to set new heights for its performance in world sports."
Paraphrasing Swami Vivekananda, Sonowal said, "I would urge all of you to Arise ! Awake ! and not stop till the Goal is achieved. ”
Every year National Sports Day is celebrated to mark the birth anniversary of Dhyan Chand.
