President Droupadi Murmu nominates philanthropist Sudha Murty to Rajya Sabha, PM Narendra Modi feels delighted

Indian President Droupadi Murmu has nominated author and philanthropist Sudha Murty to the Rajya Sabha as PM Narendra Modi congratulated her and said her presence in Rajya Sabha was a powerful testament to the country's 'Nari Shakti'.

Modi wished Murty a 'fruitful' tenure in the Rajya Sabha.

"I am delighted that the President of India has nominated @SmtSudhaMurty Ji to the Rajya Sabha. Sudha Ji's contributions to diverse fields including social work, philanthropy and education have been immense and inspiring. Her presence in the Rajya Sabha is a powerful testament to our 'Nari Shakti', exemplifying the strength and potential of women in shaping our nation's destiny. Wishing her a fruitful Parliamentary tenure," he posted on X.

Murty's nomination to the post was announced on International Women’s Day.

The Indian President nominates 12 eminent individuals to the Rajya Sabha for their contributions towards arts, literature, sciences, and social services.

Sudha Murty is an Indian educator, author, philanthropist and former chairperson of the Infosys Foundation.

She is married to the co-founder of Infosys, N. R. Narayana Murty. Murty was awarded the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award in India, for social work by the Government of India in 2006.

She was awarded the Padma Bhushan, the third-highest civilian award in India, in 2023.

She is a member of the public healthcare initiatives of the Gates Foundation.

UK PM Rishi Sunak is her son-in-law.
