Prez and PM greet women on International Women's Day
New Delhi, Mar 8 (IBNS) President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday greeted women across India on the occasion of International Women's Day.
President Mukherjee said, "Warm greetings and good wishes to the women of India on the occasion of International Women’s Day."
He also thanked women for their contribution towards the nation.
"I thank women of India for their contributions over the years in the building of our nation," he said.
Prioritising women safety, he said, "Protection and safety of women is a sacred duty of society as a whole."
He also urged the citizens of India to respect women and create a friendlier ecosystem for them to work in.
"We must respect the right of women to equal opportunities and a dignified life. We have a collective responsibility to create an ecosystem that ensures safety, security & dignity of women in society."
Speaking on gender equality and empowerment of women, President Mukherjee said, "On International Women’s Day, let us redouble our efforts for achieving gender equity and empowerment of women."
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, "Saluting the accomplishments of all women on International Women's Day & gratitude for their indispensable role in our society."
Lauding his government for the pro-women work, he said, "From 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' to better health & education facilities, our Govt's efforts towards women-led development are unwavering."
The PM said that financial inclusion and several other schemes will empower women and help the country.
"Our financial inclusion efforts, skill development initiatives & MUDRA Bank will empower our Nari Shakti to contribute to India's growth," PM Modi said.
Lawmakers also took to Twitter to post their greetings.
External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj wrote: "Greetings on International Women's day."
Arvind Kerriwal's tweet said that a single day is not enough and women should be celebrated every day.
West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee said, "On International Women's Day, greetings to all mothers, daughters, sisters... and brothers too."
He also thanked women for their contribution towards the nation.
