
Rains: IMD issues alert for Odisha, several dead in UP, train tracks submerged in Mahrashtra's Thane
A cyclonic circulation over the east-central Bay of Bengal is expected to bring heavy rainfall in Odisha over the next few days, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) warned on Saturday.
A low-pressure area is likely to be formed due to the cyclonic circulation by Tuesday, IMD said.
The weather department has predicted heavy rains in some areas in Cuttack, Khurda, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kalahandi, Kendrapara and Kandhamal districts on Sunday.
The Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre has issued yellow alert for heavy showers in coastal and southern parts of the state. Several districts are also likely to get heavy rains through Tuesday and Wednesday.
Meanwhile, heavy rains lashed parts of Uttar Pradesh, including the Deoria district, for the last three days.
Waterlogging has been reported in many areas while the day-to-day life of the people in these areas has been disrupted.
According to a media report, a three-year-old boy died and his mother was seriously injured on Saturday evening in Rampur town as the wall of their kuchcha house collapsed following heavy rains in the district.
On Saturday, IMD said rainfall is likely to decrease over Uttar Pradesh and Bihar over the next few days.
So far 22 people have died in different rain-related incidents on the same day in Uttar Pradesh.
Heavy rains also lashed Mahrashtra. Non-stop rains have cause waterlogging in several areas of Thane, said reports, adding that the railway tracks in Thane Railway station are submerged.
Water level of Mula Mutha River is rising continuously, while the Baba Bhide Bridge is submerged after the Khadakwasla dam was opened following incessant rain in the catchment area, said reports.
