Rajasthan Congress crisis: Ashok Gehlot likely to meet Sonia Gandhi today
New Delhi/IBNS: Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot is likely to meet Congress interim chief Sonia Gandhi Wednesday, a couple of days after his loyalists back in Jaipur revolted against the top brass in the run up to the party's presidential elections, media reports said.
The meeting is expected to be held at 2 pm.
The Gandhi family, who is holding the Congress' reign for decades either directly or indirectly, is upset with the rebellion by 92 Rajasthan MLAs, who have refused to accept Gehlot's critic Sachin Pilot as the next Chief Minister of the desert state.
The Congress top brass is reportedly unhappy after senior party leaders Ajay Maken and Mallikarjun Kharge, who went to Jaipur to resolve the crisis Monday, returned to the national capital empty handed after the rebel MLAs did not turn up in the meeting.
Even as Gehlot apologised to central observer Mallikarjun Kharge, who was in Jaipur yesterday, for the parallel meeting of the MLAs and their subsequent rebellion, he maintained that he had no role in it.
The party has now served a show cause notice to the three rebel Rajasthan leaders for what it calls "an act of grave indiscipline".
The MLAs have to respond within 10 days.
Reports have also claimed the rebellion has cost Gehlot his nomination for the top post.
However, some fresh reports claim Gehlot is still in the race to assume the Congress chief's post.
