
SC stays functioning of panel to probe sexual harassment of woman judge
New Delhi, Aug 29 (IBNS):The Supreme Court on Friday stayed the functioning of a panel that was set up to probe the allegations of a woman judge in Gwalior that she was sexually harassed by a senior judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court.
The woman additional judge in Gwalior had resigned on July 15 last alleging sexual harassment by a judge of the Madhya Pradesh (MP) high court.
The victim wrote in her complaint to the President of India, the Chief Justice of India (CJI) and the Union Law Minister that the MP high court judge allegedly asked her to “dance to an item song”.
The apex court also sent notices to the accused judge, the Secretary General of the Supreme Court and the Registrar of the Madhya Pradesh High Court to respond on the matter.
Earlier, the Madhya Pradesh (MP) high court judge, who has been accused of sexual harassment, has said that he is ready to face death penalty if found guilty.
In letter to the High Court Chief Justice, the Judge has said: "I am ready to face any probe by the CBI or any agency and if any allegation be found proved, I am ready even to face death penalty."
