Srijato's controversial poem removed from Facebook
Kolkata, Mar 25 (IBNS): The Facebook authorities on Friday removed Bengali poet Srijato Bandyopadhyay's controversial post from his timeline after a large number of users 'reported' against it,, reports said.
Few days earlier, Srijato posted a poem on Facebook a day after Yogi Adityanath was chosen as the Chief Minister of the newly elected BJP-led Government in Uttar Pradesh.
Alleging that few stanzas of the poem hurt religious sentiments, several users of the social networking site had asked Facebook authorities to delete the poem, whitch was complied with.
For this Facebook post, at least two FIRs have been lodged against Srijato at two different police stations in West Bengal and based on an FIR, the Siliguri Metropolitan Police have registered a non-bailable case in a local court against the eminent poet.
Claiming that he is receiving death threats on social sites, Srijato has lodged a complaint at the Kolkata Police headquarters at Lalbazar and the city police have assigned a constable of special branch for the eminent poet's security.
Earlier on Thursday, state Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said, while giving interview to a private TV news channel, that nothing, which hurts the freedom of speech, will happen with Srijato.
According to reports, Srijato's Facebook profile was suspended for few days last year after he posted a poem on the killing of a Bangladeshi blogger.
