Kolkata, Aug 22 (IBNS): Tata Steel Kolkata Literary Meet in association with select publishers and Kolkatas leading lifestyle and book store STORY organised a series of book launches between Aug 19 and 21.

On Friday, former Cabinet Minister and author Jairam Ramesh talked about the birth of Telangana during the launch of his book ‘Old History New Geography -Bifurcating Andhra Pradesh’.

The book, from Rupa Publications India, narrates the history of Andhra Pradesh as a linguistic unit that brought together the Nizam's territory, Rayalseema and Telangana and how modern politics redrew India's map, explained Jairam Ramesh while conversing with historian Rudrangshu Mukherjee.

'The Ocean of Churn' by Sanjeev Sanyal, published by Penguin India, was launched on Saturday

The book described how the Indian Ocean shaped Indian history.

Sanyal drew on evidence from remote archaeological sites, ancient inscriptions, maritime trading networks and half-forgotten oral histories. References to adventurers, merchants, explorers, monks, pirates and many others added colour to the narrative.

Despite the heavy rain, avid fans and readers turned up on Sunday to hear the mother-daughter duo, Nabaneeta Dev Sen and Nandana Sen discuss about the book of poems ‘Make up your mind’.

A collection of ‘25 poems about choice’, it is a compilation of much-awarded author and academic Nabaneeta Dev Sen’s select Bengali poems translated into English by actor, writer and child rights activist Nandana Sen.

A session of simultaneous reading of poems in Bengali and English was followed by a discussion about poetry, what inspires a poet, what to do when one suffers from a writer’s block, etc.

According to Nabaneeta Dev Sen, one of the best ways to get over the block is to translate any good piece of literature.
