Supreme Court asks CBI to file fresh status report on RG Kar rape-murder case
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday asked the Central Bureau of Investigation to file a fresh status report on the rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital happened last month.
The top court resumed the hearing amid massive, consistent global protests over the incident.
In the third hearing, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta told the court that the CCTV footage which has been handed over was of only 27 minutes.
Advocate Kapil Sibal, who is representing the State, said the footage was handed over to the CBI in its entirety.
The Solicitor General said the victim's body was found in semi-naked state.
The victim's body had injury marks, said the Solicitor General.
Apart from the campaign, thousands of people from different walks of life, including doctors, students, rickshaw pullers and artisans, shouted slogans demanding justice for the RG Kar rape and murder victim with Kolkata witnessing multiple rallies across various points in the city on Sunday.
According to media reports, over 4000 former students of various schools in Kolkata walked in south Kolkata's Rashbehari Avenue over the incident which has triggered massive demonstrations in the state and across the nation for the past month.
Though the RG Kar case is now being probed by the CBI, the state administration is facing public anger over its slow progress in the case until it was handed over to the premier investigating agency under the central government.
Despite civic volunteer Sanjoy Roy's arrest in connection with the case, junior doctors, who are on a ceasework, as well as the victim's parents suspect more people are involved in the case.
