Sushma Swaraj urges people to tweet about their problems, promises action
New Delhi, Jan 9 (IBNS): External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has urged people to tweet about their problems to the concerned embassy while alerting her, promising help.
"Please tweet your problem to the concerned Indian Embassy/authority and endorse the same to @sushmaswaraj. I monitor their response to your tweets personally. In case of emergency pl mention #SOS," she said in a two-part tweet.
Reacting to a report about 500 Indian workers seeking government help for repatriation from Iraq, the lawmaker said that the number is far less than what's reported in the media.
"I have received the report from Iraq. The number is not 500 but much less. We have repatriated 52 stranded Indian workers. We have requests from 4 more. All stranded workers should approach our Consulate in Erbil," she said.
Sounding alert, Swaraj urged the Indian workers to not overstay or else they'll be incurring a hefty fine from Iraq.
"We request Indian workers not to overstay. The penalty is US$6000 in each case. Pl approach the Consulate for repatriation. @EI_Baghdad," she said.
Breaking another news on Twitter, Swaraj said that her ministry has received reports about the death sentence of two Indian workers from Qatar government.
The workers are both residents of Tamil Nadu, she added.
"I have received report from Qatar reg death sentence for Alagappa Subramaniam and Chelladurai Perumal both from Tamil Nadu @IndEmbDoha," the tweet read.
However, she said that the Indian government has applied for clemency for the two.
"We have to file mercy petition on behalf of their family members. Our Embassy has requested Govt of Tamil Nadu in this regard.@IndEmbDoha," Swaraj's tweet added.
