Thank you buddy...I am sorry to keep you standing : Kalam told his guard moments before he collapsed
Shillong, Jul 28 (IBNS) A while before he collapsed at an event in Shillong, former President APJ Abdul Kalam greeted a policeman who was on duty for his security, saying, "Thank you, buddy."
He also shook hands with the young cop and asked him, " Are you tired? Would you like something to eat?"
" I am sorry you had to stand so long because of me," Kalam reportedly said as his aide Srijan Pal Singh has shared a facebook post.
As the former President was heading for the Indian Institute of Management, Shillong, he expressed concern about the policeman standing just ahead of them in an open gypsy that was part of his convoy.
'Why is he standing? He will get tired. This is like punishment. Can you ask a wireless message to given that he may sit?" Kalam reportedly asked.
He was told that the policeman had been instructed to keep standing for better security.
For rest of the journey the former President kept asking whether the policeman could be asked to sit down.
On reaching the destination, Kalam's aide found the guard and took him to meet the former President.
