Trinamool, BJP clash in Kolkata ahead of bypolls
Kolkata, Sept 11 (IBNS) Ahead of the high-octane bypolls for two seats in West Bengal on Sept 13, the ruling Trinmaool Congress and the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) clashed in Kolkata on Thursday.
The opposition BJP alleged that the Trinamool Congress supporters attacked them during the campaigning for the Chowringhee assembly seat at a place near Ganesh Chandra Avenue and Subodh Mulluck Square.
BJP alleged that an election agent of Trinamool Congress candidate Nayana Bandopadhyay led the attack on BJP supporters.
BJP West Bengal spokesperson RiteshTiwari is the candidate for the Kolkata seat.
BJP has lodged complaint in a local police station.
BJP is seen as the main opponent of the Trinamool Congress in the Basirhat South and Chowringhee Assembly seats going to polls on Sept 13.
With BJP garnering about 17 percent of the votes in the Lok Sabha polls in West Bengal, the party is seen as the main opposition now and it has geared up to fight the bypolls.
BJP had led by 30,000 votes in Basirhat South Assembly segment in the Lok Sabha poll.
