Village head shot dead by suspected militants in J & K
Srinagar, Jul 2 (IBNS) A village head was shot dead by suspected militants at Wagum village in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district on Wednesday.
Reports said a gang of unidentified people fired upon Mohammad Yousf Bhat (43), the village head (Nambardar) of Wagum when he was on way to a Masjid for Prayers.
He was immediately rushed to the district hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Meanwhile the army, the Special Operation Group of Police and the CRPF have cordoned off the area and launched a combing operation to nab the suspected militants.
In April last the state government had said that 10 sarpanches have been killed and three injured by militants in the valley in the last four years while 20 have resigned following threats from militant outfits.
