Violence erupts in Baltimore after Freddie Gray's funeral
Baltimore, Apr 28 (IBNS) Violence protests erupted in the streets of Baltimore city in the US over the death of Freddie Gray who was fatally injured in police custody, media reports said on Tuesday.
According to reports, week-long curfew has been announced in the state.
"A general curfew will be in effect in Baltimore City from 10pm April 28th - 5am May 4th unless renewed or rescinded by order of the Mayor," the Baltimore Police Department tweeted.
Fifteen police officers have been injured in the attack.
"Some of our injured officers from earlier have been treated & released from the hospital. Several are still being treated for injuries," the police department tweeted.
"Too many people have spent generations building up this city for it to be destroyed by thugs who -- in a very senseless way -- are trying to tear down what so many have fought for," Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake was quoted as saying by CNN.
African American Freddie Gray died on Apr 19.
According to reports, Gray died of a severe spinal cord injury while he was in police custody.
Gray's funeral was held on Monday.
