West Bengal: Aditional SP of Burdwan beaten up, 8 detained
Kolkata/Burdwan, Mar 10 (IBNS): The Additional Superintendent of Burdwan district Police and his guards were badly beaten up on Wednesday night by few drunk men at Premganj under Ausgram Police Station area in West Bengal's Burdwan district when he intervened into a local issue, officials said.
According to reports, Additional SP Dyutiman Bhattacharya asked a local puja committee at Premganj area to decrease the volume of loudspeakers.
Few men of the puja committee suddenly attacked the senior police official.
The driver and bodyguard of Dyutiman Bhattacharya were also injured when they tried to save the official.
A huge police force rushed to the spot and have detained eight persons for their alleged involvement in the attack.
"Burdwan ASP Dyutiman Bhattacharya and his men were attacked at Premganj area under Ausgram PS area today. We have detained eight suspects so far from the spot, for attacking policemen on duty. Our search operation is currently underway to find out the others, involved in this case," one senior official of Burdwan district police told IBNS.
However, sustaining injuries, the ASP is being treated in a private hospital in Burdwan town.
