Yakub Memon being hanged because he is a Muslim : Owaisi
New Delhi, Jul 24 (IBNS) All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen chief Asaduddin Owaisi has triggered a controversy, saying 1993 Mumbai blasts convict Yakub Memon is being executed because he is a Muslim.
The AIMIM chief has pointed out that the assassins of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi haven't been awarded the same punishment.
Addressing a public gathering, Owaisi pointed that two major political parties in Tamil Nadu have been trying to prevent the execution of Santhan, Murugan and Perarivalan, all convicted in Rajiv Gandhi assassination case.
"If you are giving death sentence, give it all, don't target religion. This is also terrorism," said the AIMIM chief.
This comes just months after Owaisi had sparked a controversy by questioning Bharat Ratna honour to former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, alleging that he had a role in Babri Masjid demolition in Ayodhya.
