I am thrilled being directed by Aditya Chopra: Ranveer Singh
Ranveer Singh, who is now shooting for Aditya Chopra's Befikre, is unfazed about all the attention around him and is focusing only on acting. He spoke to TWF correspondent Gaurav Sharma on films, life, his favourite directors and more
You seem to be the man of the moment.
I am very chilled out with everything happening around me. I am happy with the kind of work I am doing and it really gives me immense satisfaction to learn that people are loving my work. So everything seems to be going the right way.
Are box office results and critical acclaim to your films the reason behind this confidence?
Not really. I am happy because I am getting the kind of work I want to do. I am neither confident nor do I want to be complacent because my films are working at the box office. I have always wanted to do certain kind of films and work with some people I have grown up watching and luckily I am being able to do both.
You are also liked by most of your co-stars.
I think I am liked by everyone. I have got lots of love from everyone, my co-stars, my fans and even those who I haven't worked with and I think it's because I too like and love them. I am a very simple person. I love talking to people, interacting with them and being a part of the crowd. this is something I have learnt from my father. Love is the biggest strength a person has with which he can overcome all barriers. I am never uncomfortable interacting with people. I can keep chatting with anyone for hours. In fact, I enjoy doing that.
You are also known to be hyper energetic.
Yes, I think that is what keeps me going. I can't sit idle and that why you will find me talking to people all the time. that gives me a lot of positive energy. It is my way of keeping myself energised. I try to look at the positive side of life and that's why I am always seen doing something.
You have been part of some really good films in the last few years.
(Laughs) I think I have been really very lucky to have got the chance. But more than anything, I would say I was given the chance. I don't come from a family of actor. I was very new to the industry but I got spotted by the right people and then some really good directors showed their faith in me. I am lucky to have worked with Yash raj Films and filmmakers like Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Maneesh Sharma, Vikramaditya Motwane and Aditya Chopra.
You have become a favourite with Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
I really enjoy working with him. He is one of the few great directors we have in the country. He is in fact an artist and knows what he wants from his actors. But at the same time he is not like a strict taskmaster. He gives ample room to his actors and always open to improvisation. In fact, if you improvise, most of the time he retains those scenes. He is a delight to work to.
And now Aditya Chopra too will be directing you.
Yes he has so far only worked with Shahrukh Khan and I am extremely thrilled about being directed by him. He is another filmmaker who has great sense of filmmaking and understands the pulse of the audience extremely well, which makes him such a successful filmmaker. "Befikre" is one of his ambitious projects and the way things are shaping up we all are really hopeful about the film. It is going to be really a very different kind of film. I am getting to know Aditya Chopra in a completely new way and we have really come very close. This film is certainly going to be one of the biggest releases in the months to come.
You will be seen alongside Vaani Kapoor in the film.
She too is full of energy and I am really excited about working with her. The shoot has just begun and I am looking forward to some great time with her on the sets.
How do you go about choosing scripts?
There are quite a few things. Firstly, I choose the script only if I am able to relate to the character and believe in it. If I am not able to do so, I think the audience too won't be able to believe in it. Secondly, it's the director who is helming the project. Luckily, I have been able to collaborate with some of the best filmmakers, who are more like visionary and very confident about the product they want.
Are you happy with the way you career has shaped up?
(Laughs) I think it's still shaping up. I am trying to give my best and I am happy with the offers I am getting. I hope I continue to get this kind of work.
