I felt shy to romance Katrina on screen: Sidharth Malhotra
The lead actors of the upcoming Bollywood film 'Baar Baar Dekho', Sidharth Malhotra and Katrina Kaif, are on a promotional tour of their film slated for aSept 9 release. TWF-IBNS correspondent Souvik Ghosh catches up with them in Kolkata
Has there been any problem with the CBFC regarding a Katrina Kaif scene in the film with stories going around that the board has cut a scene in which Katrina was wearing a bra?
Sidharth: There is no controversy. We are following the certificate (U/A) given by the censor board. We do not have any such scenes also in the film and we are happy with the censorship.
Katrina: We do not have any controversy till now and we are happy. (The film's director said there is no scene in the film where Katrina is wearing a bra.)
What was your experience Sidharth of working for the first time with Katrina?
Sidharth: There are lot of true moments that we felt on the set. She is a much experienced actress. She never takes stardom for granted. She is a great co-star.
How was your experience Katrina working in this film?
Katrina: This is the first time experience for me to put so much effort on the character before going to the set, into finding the character.
Katrina, your toned abs in the film are also very much in the news. Did you follow any special diet?
Katrina: It is a lot of training and the gym. You have to be disciplined with your diet. It is a film spanning over thirty years, so lot of works went on to achieve the different looks and hairstyles.
What were the locations where you all shot for the film?
We shot in Glasgow and Thailand.
'Kala chasma'(black spectacles) is already a big hit. Do you think this song is going to be the USP of the film?
Katrina: I believe 'kala chasma' is going to be a big high point in my film and also in my life. I love dance and music. It is my passion. Since it is a musical industry so music is an integral part of the films. 'Kala chasma' is such a fun song and my favourite after a long time. It is a great conceptualisation by the whole team.
Sidharth: And also it is an old Punjabi track of 1990s. We are happy to take part in it.
This film is one of the genre that is not tried much in Hindi films. What made you Sidharth to say yes?
Sidharth: As you said that this is the genre that is not tried earlier, this is the first time we are doing and it is a great concept, not being done before. I think that is enough reason to do the film. It speaks about the issues that youth go through and it has a time element also. The film has a new concept.
Sidharth, you are trying varied roles like in 'Kaooor and Sons', 'Hasee to Phasee' and now in this film. You have never done typical song and dance in any of the films. How did you approach the script and decide to do the film?
Sidharth: Well I did such intense films like 'Ek Villain' and it was my third film. I realise how interesting it is sometimes to throw off the audience and do something beyond expectations. I am enjoying it and I feel lucky to be offered such scripts to do something different from regular singing and dancing. I like to do different types of characters. Both 'Kapoor and Sons' and 'Baar Baar Dekho' have a love story with an edge and not a typical one.
There was a talk at the starting of the film that Sidharth was a bit apprehensive to work with Katrina. Is that true?
Sidharth: I think I am not aware about any of these talks happening. I feel someway I was intimidated to work next to her as she is much more experienced than me. Yes, I was shy to romance with Katrina in front of the camera and so many people, who were my childhood crush.
Katrina, you have been in the Mumbai film industry for more than a decade and many a times you had been criticised for your acting skills. Do you think the film 'Baar Baar Dekho' would help you to evolve as an actor?
Katrina: Every actor wants to keep on evolving in all films. I am fortunate enough to work with mainstream directors. I did a commercial film with director David Dhawan and immediately I did a film of Prakash Jha, 'Rajneeti'. So I am trying to choose different roles, the roles which are projecting me in a different light balancing the films that showcase dance and glamour. I did 'Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara' which had a female director. I am very hopeful with 'Baar Baar Dekho' because I had a good experience with female directors. I think women can write the best characters for women. 'Baar Baar Dekho' is one of my favourite scripts and the characters I ever had.
