Sourav Ganguly biopic: Former skipper says Ayushmann Khurrana likely to play him on screen
Kolkata: Bollywood actor Ayushmann Khurrana is likely to play Sourav Ganguly in the latter's upcoming biopic, the former Indian cricket captain said on Thursday.
When asked about who would play him in the biopic, Ganguly said, "It has not been finalised yet. But as far as I have heard, it's Ayushmann Khurrana. I will talk (to the makers)."
The former Indian cricket board (BCCI) chief also informally said the biopic will release on big screens in 2024.
Earlier, Bollywood star Ranbir Kapoor was speculated to be playing Ganguly on big screens.
Ganguly, who is one of the finest left-handed batters, made his international debut in 1992 and went on to play for India till 2008.
Ganguly, who is one of the most successful captains, changed the face of Indian cricket infusing young, raw talents into the side.
The southpaw led the side to win various bilateral series abroad and under his captaincy, India won the Natwest Trophy in 2002 and reached the 2003 World Cup final.
His career was marred with controversy after he was left out of the Indian side following his rift with coach Greg Chappell. He later stormed back to the team almost a year later.
Even after 15 years since retiring from international cricket, Ganguly is supremely busy with his commitments to commentary, TV show hosting, endorsements, business et al.
