AAP seeks action against BJP MLA
New Delhi, Apr 22 (IBNS): The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday sent a letter to Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Umesh Sinha seeking action against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Jyotsana Srivastava, accusing her of making 'hate speech'.
"The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) wants to draw your attention towards a provocative statement given by BJP MLA from Varanasi Cantt, Mrs Jyotsana Srivastava, in full public view on Monday, April 21, 2014," Aam Aadmi Party's campaign manager from Varanasi, Gopal Mohan has said in a letter to Sinha.
"The MLA’s statement that BJP workers should not allow AAP volunteers to enter the houses of people and ensure they are forcibly driven out, has been reported in the media and the concerned MLA has confirmed her statement. What is more serious is that the statement was made in the presence of BJP’s Uttar Pradesh incharge, Amit Shah, whose track record is well known to the Election Commission also," read the letter.
"The Aam Aadmi Party demands that a criminal case under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code be registered against Mrs Srivastava for provoking people with the clear intention of inciting violence. The statement is also a clear violation of the Election Commission’s Model Code of Conduct, therefore the Commission should take appropriate steps to ensure that political parties are not allowed to spread lawlessness during the elections," it said.
AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal is contesting polls from Varanasi against BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.
